A SPEC Waterproofing in Sydney

First time renovating a bathroom and it has not gone well due to waterproofing and related defects. A-SPEC provided a certificate of compliance for work that was clearly not performed in accordance with AS3740.

They are in the process of rectification and I am shocked to have discovered that again they are not complying with the Standard with regard to installation of puddle flanges and waterproofing to the vertical termination of waterstops, despite discussion of this. The work is also careless with several thick areas and pockets that have not been covered with membrane.

The owners of the company and one of their employees have each had a hand in doing the work so this represents either a company wide lack of knowledge or blatant disregard for the Standards. When called on the need for puddle flanges we were told they were not necessary. When we discovered it was actually required according to AS3740, they disagreed. As we would have had to cut into our screed and grind down the already waterproofed slab in order to install them, they offered an additional coat of membrane instead - with the assurance they would still provide a certificate of compliance that work was completed in accordance with AS3740. What a joke - don't do it to yourself! Unless you're very knowledgable or have the work inspected at each stage, you'd never know it was wrong...
